Surgical Treatment for Hyperhidrosis

Patients with severe hyperhidrosis who have exhausted other options may consider surgery as a permanent cure. Two type of surgies are performed to treat  hyperhidrosis: sweat gland removal and surgery to interrupt the nerve signal.

Axillary Sweat Gland Removal

For axillary hyperhidrosis, excess sweating in the armpits, removal of the sweat glands is the treatment of choice. Scars following surgery may result that  restrict shoulder motion. When liposuction is used to remove the sweat gland, there is usually little scarring.
